The Black Bookends is an absurd satire about a parole officer who finds himself trapped between the insanity of supervising criminal offenders and the madness of the correctional bureaucracy while a dark and menacing
mystery begins to swirl beneath him, threatening to drag him down to his undeserved demise. It’s Catch-22 meets The Maltese Falcon in Bob Woodward’s parking garage, satirizing civil bureaucracy, human frailty, and corporate greed in much the way Catch-22 roasts the military.
At once preposterous and devastating, The Black Bookends achieves a gripping tension between the hilarious and the tragic, the grim and the absurd, and redeems the human spirit through courage, compassion and faith. And it’s a love story.
